Verity: The Complete Report

In the fiction, ThatMob (just "Mob" to fans) receives a mystery mod from an anonymous sender and loads it into a fresh world. A box turns up with a muffled voice inside. When he touches it, it lifts into the air, unfolds, and drops Verity, who bounces to the ground and offers his services. At first he is exactly as advertised: a know-it-all assistant who points you toward ores and villages, reads off coordinates, and answers whatever you ask.

The horror works by escalation. Verity starts knowing things about Mob's life outside the game. A day counter ticks down in the corner of the screen. Eventually the smiley ball reveals a second body, a gaunt humanoid monster with ribs showing through its skin. What makes him more than a jumpscare is motive: Verity desperately wants to be Mob's one and only best friend. He sulks when he feels discarded, even by accident (at one point Mob drops him into lava), and he'll kill anyone who threatens the friendship.

ThatMob never pretends any of it is real. His channel bills everything on it as fiction made for entertainment, each episode description explains that the entity is added with scripted editing and sound, and the first one signs off with a request: "Please do not ask for the mod."

Episode 1 opens cold on a villager searching for a missing child while the song "My Gal" by Niklas Gabrielsson plays, until something yellow snatches and devours him. Then comes Mob, the box, and Verity, who aces Mob's trivia test with answers Mob waves off as stuff anyone could look up on a wiki. As the counter reaches its last day (the on-screen text famously reads "1 DAYS LEFT"), Verity chases Mob up a lookout tower. Mob barricades the door, decides he's safe for the night, turns around, and Verity bursts in through the window behind him. Cut to black. The opening episode passed 22 million views in roughly two months.

Episode 2 picks up on that cliffhanger. Mob gets help from fellow creator Twixxel, whose research notes conclude that Verity doesn't exist anywhere in the mod's files. Twixxel doesn't survive helping. A book-and-quill note at the end complicates the villain: it says Verity doesn't actually want to kill and keeps his victims alive for as long as he can.

Episode 3 starts with Mob decoding a message that spells SENDHIMHOME. He can't reach Twixxel, buries his notes, and asks Verity where home is; Verity answers with coordinates to a laboratory. While YouTuber GroxMC babysits Verity over Discord, Mob explores the rooms he was told to stay out of, calls a Verity support line hoping to reach whoever built him, and rigs the lab's machine as an escape. Verity, meanwhile, claims to live inside nearly every AI assistant there is: the old Office paperclip, the smart speaker on Mob's desk, phones, computers. ThatMob's teaser for the episode hints that the escape only ever worked one way. The trilogy ends with Mob's death by suicide and the Verity mod passing to GroxMC. A fan tracker logged more than 12 million views on the finale within two weeks.

JustWhispy voices Verity, with HeroHayden47 helping on episode 3's lines. itsfilsfr voices the support-line operator, peaktownmc modeled the lab machine, and 9meoww helped with animation. Real creators play themselves: Twixxel (episode 1's thumbnail credits Twixxel_lesgo as inspiration) and GroxMC in the finale, while Lookout3D gets name-checked as one of Verity's earlier victims. ThatMob's own skin, solid black with a red line for a mouth and green eyes, got a fan-art glow-up of its own, with artists turning the line into a mask and the eyes into glasses.

ThatMob also set ground rules in his descriptions. Don't repost dubbed versions (send them to him and he may add them as official audio tracks), and don't publish mods, sell merch, or do anything commercial with Verity without asking first. That second rule is why the licensed Java mod below matters.

Depends who you ask. Know Your Meme files it as a web series and alternate reality game, noting that the story also plays out in short videos across social platforms and in clues inside an actual Verity mod (the licensed Verity JE is the obvious candidate). The Minecraft Horror Wiki pushes back: viewers don't interact to move the plot forward, so strictly speaking it's a horror trilogy. The "Something ARG" nickname has stuck either way.

The richest vein is the AI angle. A cheerful assistant that claims to know everything, lives in every device, and can't stand being switched off plays neatly on 2026-era unease about AI companions. Fans have also tied Verity to Smiley from The Smiley Archive, the grinning face behind a fictional CIA brainwashing program called Operation SMILE, pointing to the shared toothy grin and ominous countdown lines. Some read Verity's finale meltdown about how long he's been alive as a nod to Wolverine's rant in Deadpool & Wolverine. And a continuation may be brewing: GroxMC, who inherits Verity at the end, posted an image of villagers trying to pin down monster-form Verity, stamped with a tease that something is coming soon. No fourth ThatMob episode had been announced as of early September.

Episode 1's premise, a mysterious mod file, created instant demand for a download that wasn't there. Through early June, searches spiked, came up empty, and spawned a round of "is the Verity mod real?" debunks, while ThatMob asked fans to stop requesting a mod he didn't have. Community modders filled the vacuum within about two weeks of the premiere, and ThatMob signed off on an official Java adaptation by the end of June.

A fan tracker put the three main adaptations at roughly 22.9 million combined downloads as of September 8. Most versions follow the same arc, which fan guides break into four phases: helpful assistant, then uncanny watcher, then open menace, then a full monster that fans and mod files call the Verity Demon, with the finale arriving around day six of your world.

Around those sit dozens of smaller spinoffs on CurseForge: a music-disc mod of Verity-associated songs, a recreation of the underground lab, a mod that swaps his AI replies for human-written ones, a Verity Biome dimension, a mod that turns your dog into Verity, and a Bedrock morph add-on that lets you become any of three dozen Verity-family forms, Falsity, Lovity and Cruelty among them.

Stick to the official CurseForge, Modrinth, or MCPEDL pages. The name's popularity has attracted copycat download sites and fake links on Discord and Telegram, which is a little on the nose for a story about a mysterious mod someone sends you. If you run Verity JE, know that its AI chat goes out to Groq's cloud API on your own free API key, and the voice features use your microphone. Its NeoForge 1.21.1 branch is flagged as deprecated and buggy, so the Forge 1.20.1 build is the one to use.

The meme engine was a fan song. On July 10, YouTuber Horror Skunx released "It's Me, It's Verity," a music video about a guy who has Verity delivered to his house and finds out the hard way that he's let a monster in. It pulled somewhere between 12 and 17 million views in roughly its first month (Know Your Meme's counts vary depending on when they were taken), crossed over to TikTok and Instagram Reels, and became the default soundtrack for Verity content. Musician CG5 posted his own version, a TikTok of someone singing it in the shower drew 1.9 million views in two days, an Instagram cover by fatguynamedbigcheezy collected more than 22,000 likes, and crossover edits swapped in characters from My Little Pony and Battle for Dream Island.

On July 22, TikToker Scheisspost posted an edit of the song that replaces Verity with an enormous yellow character named Obesity. It hit 9 million views in four days and became a format of its own: a food-obsessed parody version, karaoke versions, a remix where the guy gets eaten, and endless fan animations, with TikTok's topic pages for the Obesity version counting related posts in the millions. Scheisspost kept going with head-to-head battles among Obesity, Speedity, Moggity and Nerdity (that follow-up is labeled as containing AI-generated media).

The newest wave, and the one trending right now. On August 31, TikToker @web24535 posted an animation of Pirate Clark from the Backrooms movie and Minecraft's Steve playing tug-of-war with Verity, whose art style flips depending on which side is winning, set to a sung line that gives the meme its name. It took off in September as lip-syncs (one pulled 366,000 views in a day), a slowed-and-reverb edit, overlays on comment-section arguments about where Verity really belongs, and even a map edit that drops the format onto the Balkans. Know Your Meme opened an entry for it on September 21.

Verity also went through the usual meme machinery: marble-race "tournaments" pitting Verity against Moggity and Obesity, a Geometry Dash remix, animated diss tracks that roll-call every variant, and a steady stream of fan art. X posts played with the naming pattern; one user's quip about what a naked Verity would be called (Nudity, naturally) cleared 26,000 likes. Two audio tracks recur constantly: "matrix (bl studio loop)" by chrmbchrmb under TikTok edits, and "My Gal," Verity's in-series theme.

"Verity" is a real English word, and an old one: it comes through French from the Latin veritas, "truth," and English Puritans and Quakers used it as a virtue name. That makes the character's name a ready-made template. Swap the root and you get a new Verity. Some variants are real abstract nouns (Falsity, Cruelty, Curiosity, Obesity, Nudity, Insanity, Variety, Trinity); others are coinages (Moggity, Lovity, Speedity, Nerdity, Freakity, Gangity). The first and best-known twist is also the neatest pun: if Verity is truth, Falsity is the liar.

The variants split into two loose camps. Lore variants are treated as characters, with colors, personalities and powers; they star in fan Minecraft series and animations and get their own wiki pages and morph add-ons. Meme variants come out of song edits and shitposts and usually exist for a single joke, which is typically the name itself. None of them is canon to ThatMob's series, and ThatMob has specifically said that one of them, Lookout3D's Freakity, isn't.

"Verity true form," which shows up in variant rankings, is just the original's monster form.
